Primary biliary cholangitis (PBC), also known as primary biliary cirrhosis, is an organ-specific, chronic cholestatic autoimmune liver disease. The disease is notably characterized by intrahepatic cholestasis, the presence of antimitochondrial antibodies in the circulating blood, and progressive, non-suppurative inflammatory destruction of the small intrahepatic bile ducts, which ultimately leads to extensive hepatic ductal destruction, biliary cirrhosis, and even liver failure. We have established a stable model of bile duct ligation-induced primary biliary cholangitis and a model of α-naphthyl isothiocyanate (ANIT)-induced primary biliary cholangitis, which are suitable for the study of drugs for preclinical primary biliary cholangitis and the evaluation of new drugs.
