Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) is an idiopathic inflammatory disease of the intestines involving the ileum, rectum, and colon. Clinical manifestations include diarrhea, abdominal pain, and even bloody stools. The disease includes ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease (CD). Ulcerative colitis is a continuous inflammation of the mucosal and submucosal layers of the colon, and the disease usually involves the rectum first, gradually spreading to the whole colon; Crohn's disease can involve the whole digestive tract, and is a discontinuous whole-layer inflammation, with the most common sites of involvement being the terminal ileum, colon, and perianal area. We have established stable models of dextran sulfate (DSS)-induced inflammatory bowel disease and trinitrobenzene sulfonic acid (TNBS)-induced inflammatory bowel disease, which are suitable for preclinical inflammatory bowel disease drug research and new drug evaluation.
